A brief look into the ‘Brotherhood of the Holy Lance’
The Brotherhood of the Holy Lance is said to often be one of the oldest of all holy orders within the Nova English Community. In fact it has remained in Nova England for the same amount of time as Nova English Christianity has. From humble beginnings to holding a great amount of power the monastic order has remained today a major figurehead in Nova English Politics especially in the military sphere of influence.
From Humble beginnings – Scribe Lucius Aner
It was with great regret that Brother Althred passed away before completing his life’s work for the Brotherhood. However after his Solar was raided by Heathen thugs and himself being martyred the task has fallen to myself to take down the momentous task of recording all of the Brethren’s history. So I’ve first decided that I should check with you on the humble beginnings of our great and glorious Brotherhood before I proceed.
As was noted by brother Althred our order was first establish by a group of 12 Christians that arose from the Southern regions namely around Northern Surtland. These twelve men as all brothers should already know were name Hugh Islic, William Forvic, Uthred Smih, Alden Ishop, Farmon Helm, Gar Thortup, Irwen Uslac, Marcus Easldor, Iosephus Deaph, Christoph Nhad, Leax Geddes and of course our core founder Ryce Kinrac. These twelve who formed the first council of the Brethren originally pledged them selves to the protection of the new born Christians and to spread the word of God in a language that all too many Nova English understood well. Their numbers swelled to around 200 Brothers soon after their formation in 49AD. And after King Oslic our first true Christian King converted to the word of God the Brotherhood quickly became in his favour. With that our numbers swelled even greater and we were able to establish our first fortresses. Whilst we were able to start protecting traders the Order was able to acquire many skills of the trade which lead to our hold on trade within the Taylor Bay region.

The above sample from a script discovered in early 1937 in one of the Brotherhood’s lost houses gives an early insight as to the origins of the order. In actuality after the events that happened after the letter was written the Brotherhood was able to gain a vast amount of power throughout the Fatherland. In fact after various small crusades against the Kampongese in the South a full scale ‘Grand’ Crusade was launched by Queen Gildre in 234AD. This is what led the Brotherhood to gain considerable influence over the national military after it was able to help liberate all of Southern Burwood which had been constantly hampered by Kampongese.
The Brotherhood in a military capability has proved them over and over again with such ranges of battles that they have become veterans in and defeated the enemy. For example in 1124AD a large battalion of Brotherhood Knights was able to successfully hold of an invading force of Kampongese that was nearly ten times their size. This is often put to the rigourous training that they are entered into at a young age and continued with their ethics in battle such as the infamous 10-1 rule in that they may only surrender when 90% of their forces have fallen and after their standards have finally fallen.
The Brotherhood is somewhat made up of three distinct groups first are the Blaeclaeod so called for the Black mantles that they wear. This group is formed from brothers that have yet to take the black mantle of the brotherhood and are often the younger knights in training. Then there are obviously the Knights of the Brotherhood followed by the last group which is made up of the Priests and Scribes of the Brotherhood. Hierarchy within the Brotherhood however greatly differs with the Nova English Army with the Grand Master whom is appointed from a commander not involved within the council of 12 then the Council of 12, Knight Commanders, Knights, Priests/Head Scribes, Blaeclaeod Corporals and the Blaeclaeod/Scribes.
