In 2008, Batavia brought you the first World Expo, an exciting showcase of the work of a variety of participating micronations. In 2009, sponsored by the MNN, Gralus brought you World Expo '09, with more than twice as many national participants and, for the first time, a stall for International Organisations. In 2010, the expo committee never got around to doing anything. But despair not. In February 2011, the FNORD winning Bastion Union, with the generous sponsorship of VBNC, is organising to bring you World Expo '11, the most amazing international extravaganza yet!
For those who never got to participate in a World Expo before, this is an opportunity to show off your nation to the world. Each registered nation will be given a subforum which you can fill with whatever you think best reflects your nation and its achievements. Typically nations create a pavilion to highlight their nation, but why stop with just a pavilion? You can create any number of exhibits on everything from currency to churches, sagas to subdivisions. Not only is this an excellent way to show off your very best work to the rest of the micronational world, it also provides a stunning historical record for your own uses, and can lead to many fine wiki articles if you're not a nation used to that thing.
In '09 we invited International Organisations to set up stalls in a special extra pavilion, and tell us about themselves and what they do. They're certainly welcome in World Expo '11 and we hope to see new faces like the OAM, SCUE and representatives from the major Wikis around this year. This Expo they're also joined by major companies - if you think you've put work into your company and want to get its name out there, this is your chance - register a stall within the brand new Company Pavilion and engage in some free international advertising.
What do you need to do to get involved in this fabulous event? Just register, and then start work on your pavilion and exhibits. You have a little over a week left to get ready if you want to be set for the start of the World Expo, though it will last for three months and you can keep bringing out exhibits over that time. So what are you waiting for? We'd love to have you on board, and together, we will make World Expo '11 one to remember!
