Fréo- Fýst
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is proud to announce the creation of Nova England’s first sanctioned Fréo- Fýst (Free-Fist) League. In association with the NEFDA and the NEWCL, the FFL will allow practitioners of various martial arts to compete within an arena under a limited but fixed set of rules.
The objective of the FFL is to promote and encourage participation in Nova English and foreign martial arts. In addition to providing entertainment to the live audience and those watching at home.
The current rules for the first Fréo- Fýst League are as follows;
1. Dress & Protective Gear
a. Competitor shall wear grappling gloves, gum shields and cup protectors (under their trunks). Competitors wear and protective gear shall be either red or black.
b. Competitors shall wear shirts and trunks in the same colour as their protective gear. Female competitors may wear close-fitting undergarments.
c. The weight of gloves shall be 4oz.
2. Fighting Methods
a. All attacking and defending techniques may be used in fighting.
3. Prohibited Methods
a. The back of head, the neck and the crotch.
4. Scoring Criteria
a. A competitor will be awarded two points
i. When the opponent falls of the platform;
ii. When he remains standing while the opponent falls down
iii. When he hits the opponent’s head or trunk with a leg technique
iv. When he makes the opponent fall down by falling down himself on purpose, only to get to his/her feet by means of a follow-through.
v. When the opponent is given a forcible counting
vi. When the opponent receives a warning
b. A competitor will be awarded one point
i. When he/she hits the opponents’ head or trunk with a fist technique
ii. When he/she hits the opponents’ leg with a leg technique
iii. When he/she falls down after the opponent
iv. When he/she makes the opponent fall down by falling down themselves on purpose, without being able to get to their feet by means of a follow through
v. When the opponent fails to attack within eight seconds after the order for appointed attack
vi. When the opponent fails to get to their feet within three seconds after falling down on purpose
vii. When the opponent receives and admonition
c. No point will be awarded for
d. When the techniques used are not clean and effective
e. When both sides fall on or off the platform at the same time
f. When the opponent falls on purpose as a fighting technique
g. When they hit the opponent in a clinch.
5. Determination of Wins and Losses
a. Absolute Victory
b. In a one-sided bout, the technically stronger will be declared the winner of the bout by the platform judge with the referee’s approval.
c. During a bout, the competitor whose opponent has been knocked down and fails to get to their feet within ten seconds after receiving heavy blows, or who has managed to get to their feet but-remains in an
abnormal state of consciousness, will be declared the winner of the bout.
6. Length of Bout
a. A bout shall last no more than three rounds
b. A round will last for a total of forty seconds
